I got an offer from amazon 5 months ago for TC of 335k SDE2

Google gave me 328k for L4 since I had Amazon, so I have joined Google.

I have received couple of email from Amazon that they are still interested and open to renegotiate the offer. They said they will increase 25% which makes it 418k.

I heard all the rumours about pip at Amazon but the money is so tempting

The other question is would Google increase the TC if I try to renegotiate

Update: thanks everyone who answered, Just few things to mention:

- My interview at Amazon was as hard as the one at Google

- Since I am on work permit I will stay with Google, it is just sad that Google is paying less but WLB is good

- The question is would Google increase the TC if I quit

--------------
Update 2:

Ok it is too late for me to negotiate with Google, and I am not joining Amazon, but looking at these crazy offers from Amazon, the new hires at Google must be getting very good TC.

Maybe I will interview again in a year

I’ve been at Amazon for 8 years. Everyone who I have seen get PIP’d legitimately did not meet the bar and brought down team morale. I’ve never seen a good engineer get fired just to fill a quota. Amazon’s interview bar for L4-L5 is pretty low so there is always someone who gets through that who shouldn’t have. We also love to convert people to SDE/M from other roles internally. Those folks frequently don’t make it in the long run.

If you aren’t on a visa, PIP really should not be a concern. The real stressor is maintaining TT ratings to keep up the high TC.

Amazon does stack ranking and curve fitting. More than often, to meet the URA while doing the curve fitting, lower stacked rank engineer become fodder for PIP who may be a average performer. There is a reason why Amazon is paying this high to external hires to lure in because not many are joining because of not so good wlb and mandatory URA quota. There is also mass exodus of existing employees due to poor compensation. Pay raise news is more of a PR stunt, reality is, current employees are not going to see the increased compensation till next year except base raise.
People who are suggesting that there are both good and bad teams or managers, yes I agree in broader sense. But if I were you, I would interview elsewhere and go for offers which provides better wlb and no URA. Joining Amazon would be like gambling, hoping to land in good team.

A big reason why there’s mass exodus from Amazon (extremely high attrition - again this is horrible for team morale and long term thinking & planning) is because culture is so toxic. Teams are so toxic. Managers are so toxic

Why? Because stack ranking causes teams to become circular firing squads every single f*ing year!

And what happens when few want to join Amazon- like today where recruiters are having a very hard time signing good candidates?

Guess who gets piped? The better team members!

And the circular firing squad begins

I’d stay at Google and keep interviewing else where, if your ultimate goal is to explore external offers and having a doubt about joining Amazon.

Amazon FYI I’m not making even half of that.
But also the point isn’t the absolute amount. The initial comment stated that immigrants are whiny about pay. And that’s an unfair assessment, blaming immigrants just for saying they want to paid fairly and market rate, and instead calling them whiny. Immigrants already have to face plenty of issues that affect overall career growth (such as inability to move roles immediately/ at Will due to H1B/green card processing and restrictions.) I’ve personally been denied roles that pay 40% more pay because they don’t hire people on OPT.

To say people on work permits whine too much about pay is absolutely unfair and downright ignorant.

I wouldn’t join Amazon. Though look for better equivalent opportunities in better companies.
