230K in florida vs 400K in bay area?

Please weigh in on the above. Been in south florida for last few years. P.S Not a lot of tech companies down here. The opportunity in Florida is with Salesforce which includes 40 to 50% travel. The opportunity in bay area is with a smaller product company, low revenue but high valuation company. No travel.

Florida. Don't chase paper money. Or at least put some expected value around the stocks.

About the same in terms of how distant you are from struggling, though you will afford a bigger house in Florida if that is important. Weather far better in SV. Commute is far worse . Homes in both locations will be lost to sea level rise in 30-50 years, so sell at some point before that becomes obvious.

Lol..yes harder part of this is letting go a big beautiful house

I took a new job as a manager in a nearby location. I probably had the BEST view on campus before I took the new position . Sometimes I am back up in that area and I am somewhat wistful about the view but I am also happy with the content of the new job. Only you can decide which is more important. I personally am not fond of travel and 50% would feel like a major burden, but some people love that. Maybe glean from this thread and build a big ol pros and cons list

So, do you like to travel?

Wayfair WNEm45 Aug 31, 2019

He's a consultant. Of course he likes travel.

Oracle not_larry Aug 31, 2019

He’s a consultant just means he travels, not that he likes to travel.

Swe? YoE?

Solution Architect. 11 yrs

For a solution architect, i believe you don’t have to be in Bay Area to be employed by companies here. So, if you like travel, go for Florida

I've lived in both and would never choose Fl over CA.

Deloitte fuwM24 OP Aug 31, 2019

Can you elaborate?

PAREXEL CeeL28 Aug 31, 2019

I lived in Gainesville FL for 5 years. College town so the culture wasnt, well like Florida. The hurricanes, uneducated people, trashiness and godawful heat were not enough to offset being rich there. Lived in Bay Area for 11 years. Live the food, people, weather. It is expensive but if you are making 400k you can easily afford to buy. Just sitting in my backyard is like going to a resort. Check out the average weather all year. Now all that said, unless you are living in SF proper you will need air-conditioning.

Bro $230k in FL is like being a fucking millionaire. Take the money get married and don't tell anyone what you're doing. You made it.

It comes down to travel, as pros and cons will even out.

Due to weather and nature I would prefer California. Also Florida is mainly red state, so California wins

Where in Florida?

AT&T asd456 Aug 31, 2019

Florida will be underwater in the next 2 years so unless you’re big into scuba diving 🤷‍♂️

Lockheed Martin Schz3 Aug 31, 2019

Gonna take 20-80 years I would guess.

AT&T asd456 Sep 1, 2019

Yeah I’m just jokin, my fam lives in south Florida so I sure hope it doesn’t flood anytime soon.
