I spoke to recruiters at a few trading firms without disclosing my current comp and they said it might be doable with strong interview performance and competing offers. I don't think I can get more than 300k at FANG even with competing offers so I would want to hit 400k to move. Is anyone on Blind working in HFT doing systems work with this comp for similar yoe?
Iām similar yoe with 450k TC, you should try interviewing at Netflix to get a competing offer.
I'll ask if they need my skillset. Current company is very good for being technical so would be ok with less TC to keep developing skills.
More than 400k is definitely possible for 2-3 YOE with good interview performance.
Got it. Competing offers would be necessary I'm assuming, are the starting offers around 300-350k range?
Competing offers are not always required. Keep in mind that the initial offer details just provide a guaranteed bonus and if you do well in your first year your bonus could easily be much higher. So the offer itself is not the best way to measure TC. Itās hard to give specific details without knowing the exact company, but 300-350k would be on the low end. Perhaps for some of the lower tier or non-HFT firms (e.g. Two Sigma), for someone without much relevant experience.
It heavily depends on your C++ skills and Linux kernel understanding as well. Since youāre at Google in distributed systems, I am assuming a lot of your work is in C++ and Go?
C++ expert in 1 yoe
Yes he began programming since high school.
How transferrable are skills learnt in Compiler teams for hft??
You sound like someone on my team. Yes itās probably doable with competing offers. I was almost offered mid 3 with 1 yoe.
Which team was that??
Damn man, all these salaries š„
Somewhat hard tbh. 400k for a 2.5yoe requires excellent skills + perfect match of tech stacks + strong competing offer even at HFT. Please don't PM me for details
Are you talking base+bonus only or including first year sign on bonus too?
Sign on bonus not included
Jane street doesn't use distributed systems, thats what the recruiter at JS told me.
No thatās totally incorrect
What do you mean by they donāt use distributed systems? Are they 1 giant monolithic app running on 1 machine?
