How small or big were the cuts? Google doesn’t typically do layoffs so we are seeing a more serious Sundar at the helm of Alphabet when it comes to making business decisions to trim the fat.

I was laid off in July from Google Cloud. No PIP, no bad reviews or feedback, no chance to look for another job within the company. Had an acquaintance a year or two ago that got several bad reviews, was put on PIP and allowed to look for another job within Google before they eventually fired him. Guy with bad work history got more consideration than I did with no known dings on my record. Google even said people who are laid off can't apply for 6 months. I have to admit, I was a "third wheel" on my project. My last project got offshored and then I got dumped in an over-full department, then Covid hit. I didn't have much to do other than bug fixes, so I started a 20% project that was going well. I don't really understand what happened, since I see no signs of layoffs online but didn't get any of the usual steps to be rid of someone. I am very confused. Fortunately after 2 months, I wound up with a better job, to my surprise, but I was interviewing and applying nearly full time. Got a lot of interviews, but only one offer. Everywhere I looked, people said there was a lot of hiring going on. I'm wondering if there are a lot more layoffs than are being reported in Silicon Valley.
