The circle is getting smaller with every passing day. In last five days, each day, I have received news of known folks passing away in my hometown. And I probably know at most thousand people there.

I have an unstamped H1B. Perm is still in process with no sight. Essentially if I have to visit India, there is no visibility of returning. I have family with middle school child who had her entire schooling here (came here when she was toddler) and student loan. So getting a job and starting a new life in India in this milieu will be tough

OTOH, I cannot even fathom not visiting if something happens. It will scar me for my entire remaining life.

How are you planning to handle such scenario?

Unfortunately legal immigrants are treated worse than illegal immigrants in this country.

Well that doesn't justify the fact that you keep ignoring legal immigrants and their pain. Legal immigrants also go through a lot of pain. Give a thought about us as well.

Umm.. how? I was countering this: “Unfortunately legal immigrants are treated worse than illegal immigrants in this country.” Which is absurd.

@looking112 if your PD is 2014 you could have a chance of EAD in couple of years potentially. And if your Visa is valid till next few years , you shd be able to come back. At the worst case explore options of transfer out to India and return back through Amazon

I know it’s very hard to deal with logistics especially family, housing and kids education but that’s the last resort .

  • That’s the price we all pay for being an immigrant. First generation immigrants are worst. The pain and frustration is real. Yesterday was watching “Ram Prasad ki Tervi” on Netflix, it really felt like a punch in the GUT.
Just pray that nothing happens to anyone that really matter to you. Nothing much we can do right now but once the pandemic is over, do have your parents over here with you for every possible second.

Ask them to get vaccinated. The risk goes down by 10 folds. Wait for another 45 days for herd immunity in india and then travel

    • Also, older people have less immunity. Not sure they are able to sustain after effect and during that time they don’t have any support.

I heard from my parents in Chennai that no one is coming to get vaccine. When they went for second dose they were complaining that the vaccines r still going to waste. Ask ur parents to stay safe until the storm weathers. I know it's a hard situation, but it's not any better even if u r in india and not exactly with them. I have some relatives die due to covid and their offsprings couldn't visit even being in india. The situation is just absolutely hopeless right now. I beg my parents to stay safe though they got vaccinated. I am all planned to go back once the situation is a little better. In the big picture it's not just about corona. I realized that they need support and affection even when things r normal. For me I would regret not being with them than making tree fiddies here.
