So today I have officially decided to start looking for new roles internally and externally from Google Cloud. I am in my 4th year and in December I receive my last large vest.

It has been a long road here at GCP and frankly I see GCP sales organization turning into an Oracle sales culture. The path toward promotion is challenging and constant reorg is driving me to the edge. I feel like the only thing keeping me here is the brand.

I am looking for the Blind communities help on this one. Should I stick it out or find greener grass?

TC- $300k
Base: 100k
Variable: $150k (exceeded quota once in 4 years)
GSU: $50k (next year this drops to $20k)

Help a brotha out!!

I heard the opposite from my SA who came from OCI. Said she worked on a team of SAs that had sort of a hybrid SA/AM role, collaborated on accounts and shared customer wins, had less of an IC culture. Much less intense than at AWS. I'd never heard of this model, does it ring a bell?

I'm leaving because of the same. Google Cloud is not Google. I have been at Google for 5+ years and 2+ in Cloud. Cloud brings people from Cisco, Amazon, HP and other legacy tech companies and that means bring their shitty culture of politics, escalations for every thing, urgency, bla bla bla. I'm a SWE but hate my manager (ex-AWS) pinging over the weekend for something he just want to expedite for his promo. Leave, I'm leaving too

I am on the Ads side of the business. The Ads business is quite organized and pretty solid overall. Basically all companies buy ads from Google and it is more about working to set them up for success and increasing quarterly spend strategically. I know a lot of people in GCP and they echo what OP has shared. There is definitely growth opportunities and money to be made - but it is the Wild West. Quotas are often arbitrary, deadlines can be tight, WLB is inconsistent, and culture is definitely different (due to all of the enterprise sales people from AWS, OCI, Cisco, etc.). GCP is still a great place to land compared to many other companies - but it does a few things that need to be worked through.

Where would you go? I'm seeing similar things in the AWS sales org, but have higher comp (and YoE), and got a refresher which keeps things interesting going into year 5. Might be worth it to answer some of those cold reach-outs on LinkedIn and figure out what else is out there!
