Anyone a current contractor at Microsoft? What do your healthcare premiums look like? Do you accrue any PTO through your agency? Considering a new role in recruiting. Thank you

Ask the agency, because it varies wildly. I’m pretty sure Microsoft enforces some amount of PTO and sick leave. They also kick in some cash toward insurance premiums and may have some baseline insurance requirements that must be met by the agency.

With my last one the premiums were relatively inexpensive for single people ($150/month or so), more for people with children ($325/month or so), and most for families ($475/month). We accrued 12 days a year (technically two were floating holidays) of PTO with separate sick leave.

      Other thoughts and pointers:
      - PTO is more negotiable than salary due to budget.
      - It’s in the best interest of the company you’re working through to get the most they can for you since they make some percentage of your income, which also reduces your salary negotiation options, but means you’ll get about as much as possible.
      - Being a contractor is rough. You’ll find many FTEs are particularly rude and dismissive when you work beyond your direct team. Recruiters always work with other teams, so you’ll get the worst from all sides. I once went for an interview loop and the HM didn’t remember my recruiter’s name, nor have anything good to say about her.
      - Recruiting is a meat grinder and it’s highly unlikely that you’ll get an FTE role.
      - Many HMs discriminate against current and former contractors because they believe it reflects poorly on the person.
