Microsoft Offer start date

Dec 25, 2019 4 Comments

My Background is still in progress and will be completed by first week of January and I think start date will be by end of January or first week of Feb.

I will receive my Bonus and RSUs from T-Mobile by end of Feb 2020 and I don’t want to lose it and I want to have my start date to be in first week of March 2020. I am kind of reluctant to ask the hiring manager if start date in first week of March will work or not as it is away by a month and half from ideal start date and I know hiring team needs me to start as soon as possible. I don’t want to sound like I am making an unreasonable request.

Should I ask the recruiter or hiring manager about the same?

  • Just email them, that's what I did. But it was reverse. I asked my manager to join after 1.5 month and then after few days I emailed them to join earlier. They agreed. Always say, otherwise how would other people know what is going on.

Delay by a month or so is not a big deal usually. I would contact the HM directly and state your reason behind the request too.

People understand that bonus and RSUs are a sizable chunk. A reasonable company and HM should oblige.

  • Make sure the pay date is correct and just tell them when everything looks fine I need to give 1 month notice because of my responsibility and the projects handover.

  • Ofcourse, you have to inform the recruiter/hiring manager otherwise how would they know.

You can also negotiate on the sign on bonus if they want to hire you early.
