Why do you care about TC? Going to leave 600k job
Throughout the past year, my manager left, and I've been feeling burned out on tech. I started working in 2017 and in 1.5 years got a 400k offer. My past two w2s have been around 600k
In spite of this, I want to leave the tech industry for the foreseeable future, and pursue other passions or feel like I'm not just aiding the consumption of goods.
I know it's cliche to say that money doesn't matter or money won't buy happiness, but I truly believe this. Having been homeless for years, as well as having lived for years on 10k a year in wages, I don't feel much happier than I was back then. The main missing thing is the feeling of financial stability, which didn't affect me much in the first place. Call me naive, but I always believed things would work out, regardless of what I pursed. I unfortunately don't have the capital to retire (rip stock market), so if/when I leave, I'd probably burn through my savings in 5 years. I still feel that even if I destroy my financial future, I'll be happier long term.
My other option is to switch jobs, but they all feel the same to me.
When I talk to other people in the tech industry (old mentors, some friends, coworkers), almost all of them recommend I stay. To get a house, to save for something, to retire, and almost all the advice has been related to money. To what end, though? Why do you stay in the tech industry? What does money mean to you?
And what do you think I should do?
