Comparing offers: advice/information please! Google vs Gusto
Hi! I have to make a decision ASAP about some offers I have on the table and I’m having trouble deciding as they are very different opportunities. The offers are with #gusto (aka #zenpayroll ), #capitalone, #google, and #thirtymadison. For context, I’m prioritizing learning opportunities (in tech but also domain or product skills), growth within a company, a warm/inclusive environment, and a positive social impact. Of course I’m also thinking about long term prospects, so reputation and tech stack do still matter. Compensation is *not* going to be the deciding factor for me and whichever company I move forward with I would negotiate my offer with, as well. Since I know it’s expected here, I’m posting the basic offer details.
I have 2 yoe at FB as a SWE and I am planning on leaving (staying at FB is not something I’m considering)
Gusto: L2 SWE
TC: ~250k (base, equity, bonus)
Notes: great people, mission oriented, but would I get bored of working at a payroll company?
Thirty Madison: L2 SWE
TC: hard to estimate, depends on value of options, ~180k (base, equity, bonus, signing bonus)
Notes: riskier of options, but closer to direct impact working in the health-tech space
Capital one: senior swe
TC: ~180k
Notes: Within a small team at the company, interesting opportunity with stability and good WLB
Google: L3 (early career)
TC: ~250k
Notes: Good opportunity to learn more tech skills at scale, system design work, probably not as much individual impact but stability and would be easy to find a job after
I’d say google and gusto are probably the top 2 right now, but they’re very, very different. Can people please help me weigh pros/cons? Would be great to also hear from someone who had to make a similar decision? Gusto isn’t a tiny startup so I’m not so worried about stability!
I understand I’m very lucky to be in this position after a lot of hard work, and I’m very thankful for the opportunities.

In general, don't get intimidated with the degrees or YOEs of team members. They offered you a role because they believe you'd be a great fit. I'm a manager, I know we don't often give away roles for juniors unless we see them fit. Be confident!
realistically you can get promoed in 1.5 years. cme to ee to see with promo.
