  • Something was done despite of my explicit disagreement with it. Less than 48 hours later, I submitted my resignation. No one believed it for a good 1.5 weeks because it looked like I was exiting too good of a situation over something not that significant (it was very significant to me and I had been explicit about it before joining the company). I stuck with it and 2 days before actually factually being fully gone, my then boss finally understood I wasnโ€™t joking and I was a goner, the way his face dropped at that realization is something Iโ€™ll never forget. But no, thatโ€™s not the epic part. The epic part is that me exiting like that on a matter of principles triggered several senior people (including senior leadership) to exit right after because they felt inspired by me (and told me so themselves). Even better, I ended up with a much better job right after and all of my old buddies from there continue to ask me (even to this day years later) to help them get outta there and bring them to wherever I am at that given time. Since then, I cherry picked all the skilled folks and left them with very little talent and have intentionally hired good folks away from them. So, I stuck it to them once, and then twice, and then another time and the story keeps going ;). As for how I pulled it off - did so with my imaginary giant south region equipment (aka actually stupidly brave but so much so that it turned inspirational).

I managed to set a trap and get my boss laid off..

Now you may ask what the hell that was - My manager was arrogant and wanted to boss around and would not respect peers. I would pump and dump into his mind that other teams are not willing to work on our timelines and are being difficult.. He instead of using his judgement would go barge in and shout at them and thats where it costed him his job as during review he got all negative feedback and was shown the door..

    • @aaa123 I never claimed they should be in a leadership position. All I stated is that just one individual, especially not one appointed to have the responsibility of supervision, is not within their right to singlehandedly decide if someone deserves to be fired or not.

I graduated at 23 years old in Computer engineering. FYI I did not include my internships.

Worked 1 year in a shitty start up. TC was about 40k. No equity.
Worked 2 years at a shitty corporate company. TC was about 65k. No equity.
Worked 3 years at an amazing payment company. TC was about 110k. No equity.
Worked 2 years at Affirm. Loved it. TC was about 230k.
Landed a role at Hashicorp. TC is now around 550k.

At 30 years old, Iโ€™m in the 1%, have great work balance, work remotely and have so much fun at โ€œworkโ€. Never give up, keep LC and learning new things ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ”
