In Bay Area: Renting house. (4000/month) 1 kid, private school. Spouse doesn’t work. 25-45min (depending on traffic) commute. Excellent work life balance. Good stock refreshers. In Atlanta: Can buy a house on cash 15 min from work. Might have to work more hours? Not sure if I’ll hit it off with new team. What would you do and why?
Well do you like Atlanta?
for me the choice is 175k san diego vs 275k Bay Area
I would give you a handie in the 'loin if you could get me a job in San Diego. Hands down best city in the USA.
It's official nickname is "America's finest city."
Wait till kid grows up and then move..GA has free tuition in undergrad for top performers in high school..just creating a good use case for the move
At those numbers, Atlanta is the better quality of life by a significant margin.
if career>family bayarea() else anywhereelse()
If (career > family || age < 40)
age < 40 ? NYC : just die

It’s not even close. Atlanta
One other factor to consider is trajectory at FB. Are you are on track for promotions and upward mobility? If so, 350k now could easily be 500k in a year or two, whereas 200k in Atlanta is unlikely to grow much. In the immediate run, 200k in Atlanta with a paid for house wins out.
Maxed out on promos. I could potentially get promoted once more, but don’t want to since it would mean more work and stress. Stock refreshers are good though, I would probably be closer to 500k in 2 years. You are right in that the Atlanta job won’t have similar career or stock refresher growth.
