I've kind of lost interest in Google, but was curious if Kirkland is even viable career-wise. I'm at AWS in Seattle and it's a great place to work. Sr. SDE promo coming up in about a year or so. Work is impactful, great experience, ML involved. I landed the perfect project. I used to always want to work at Google, but I have heard recently that people feel underutilized, and/or bored.
Does anyone think it's actually worth it to be at Google just to be there (even if it's a satellite office), or is it better to stay at Amazon HQ? I really want a bump in TC, but it would be unbearable to land on a crappy project where I feel underutilized, or if it's trivial work.
I'll probably stay for at LEAST the next 3 years and see where our team goes. End-goal TC is 325, which is achievable at Sr. SDE at Amazon, but might take a while (maybe a few years from promo).

This is like saying Amazon will someday throw the towel in on ads because it will never catch up with Google or Facebook. Silly. The pie is huge for ad as well.
It’s well worth to try G at any point of your career: some of the best tech, great culture & perks, the ultimate resume stamp, etc.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Any work has ups and downs. Also the picture from outside is typically skewed. Few years before I declined Facebook after clearing the interviews, because I thought that I would be a drop in the ocean there when compared to the architect position I was holding in a good company. I also declined Amazon every time recruiter approached me, because I heard that work culture in Amazon is too tightly wound. After joining Google I realized that picture inside is entirely different from what folks talk about companies like these. If someone is feeling under utilized in a company like Google, then they aren't trying and waiting to be told what to do.
At 325, I can retire before I'm 50. And tbh, would like to buy a house on the Eastside soon. Bump would definitely help.
