About moving to San Antonio TX area

Apr 21, 2021 5 Comments

Hey everyone, I just got a remote job offer (Startup) which I’m considering b/c current housing situation in the Bay Area is making it impossible for me to buy.

I have been doing lots of research on the San Antonio TX area (Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, New Braunsfels, Timberwood Park, etc) k12 Schools appear to be great and houses are about 4 times larger and cost 1/4 compared to the BayArea.

I was wondering if any of you have any experience living there? Are Californians welcomed? Internet speed? Any comments, suggestions greatly appreciated!

Offer TC: 260k
Yoe: 10

Well I’m going to give you some very good advice. Don’t insert that S into New Braunfels. 😂 We might kick you out. Other than that, it’s a great place to live and work. Fair Oaks, Boerne, Stone Oak, are all excellent schools and areas to live. Property taxes are super high but zero state income tax. Internet speed is iffy the further out from the city you go. My mother has been here 20 years and her internet provider BARELY upgraded their infrastructure a few months ago. I’m a SoCal hybrid with one parent in NB and one parent in OC, Texans aren’t keen on CA politics but they are super hospitable.

Houses are flying off the market RN and going way above asking BUT still a drop in the bucket compared to what you would spend in CA.

If you move just start calling yourself a Texan, won't be long before people don't care about where you were before.

  • I wouldn’t recommend to stay at San Antonio suburbs due to proximity to good schools and hospitals. Inside San Antonio city, you can look around stone oak area which is on coty north side And has best schools.
