What are the exit opportunities of a Program Manager role?

Apr 26, 2021 3 Comments

A recruiter reached out to me for this role in an industry where I am interested to build a career (and possibly launch my own business venture).

The role's scope is to manage a small team of Program Managers and enable efficiency.

---
I am not convinced as I enjoy more "build" type role and this really detaches me from any product/building. Thoughts on what I can do next after Program Manager?

Currently, I am a Special Projects - Strategy & Business Development Manager at a >$10bn fintech.

Thanks

    • I thought COS required more consulting background?

Would you say Program Manager is a sought after career?

Consulting never hurts but I don't see it as a requirement for a lot of CoS postings
There are TONS of PgM postings! There big watch out is to ensure you don't wind up as a glorified task chaser/admin assistant. PgM work probably doesn't pay as much as a functional lead though. However, it's really easy to pivot into new areas and potentially transition into a functional lead role, at the right company and if you develop deep subject matter expertise
