Salesforce remote offer

Apr 26, 2021 20 Comments

Just got a verbal offer. Numbers are not yet confirmed. Location now is set to be Bay Area or Seattle. The team is distributed though. Shall I ask for a remote location say LA or Austin? Will that mean a lower package? If so what is the % of TC drop?

TC now 270k

Do you know when you will relocate to those locations? Maybe it might be better to work in the Bay/Seattle (If you already live there) and then relocate after 6 months to keep the same compensation.

Just wondering, how was your interview process? Did it take 4->6 weeks ? Heard the Salesforce process has gotten longer

    • I got your point, I am not in favor of salaries adjustment based in geographic localization either. But lets take Austin as an example, as Texas doesn’t have state income tax, in practice the 20% paycut, as net salary, drops to ~10%. Housing can be hot and expensive in Austin right now, but I doubt it is even close to the Bay Area madness. And this difference always exists, we never offer the same compensation in Texas and California, but now the numbers are transparent and you have the flexibility to choose if you wanna make the move.

    • Of course, but comparing everything to the bay is the problem. Because the company is headquartered there is the flaw in the percentage differences. It’s all based on cost of labor but it’s lazy work by comp departments to assume everything should be based on the insanely overinflated Bay Area. Take for instance Seattle which is also now inflated…no state tax, lower property taxes but still too expensive. Comparing that to Austin which has 2-3% property tax rates on top of skyrocketing house prices. One being 20% less than the other simply doesn’t equate. This is a many company problem, not just Salesforce.

  • Congrats! About the compensation drop, Seattle and LA would be 10% less than Bay Area. Austin 30% less

  • Salesforce announced all positions as remote. Why are they calling you back to office?

    • Same question. I’m considering roles there and seeing people going back in the office already makes me wonder how much is PR and how much is genuine. No bait and switch interest.

Remote positions have a lower TC in SFDC. It’s better to find location with office
