Switching to CS should I go the talent or the desires route?

Basically I’m tired of lab work. So I’m learning to code and so on. One of the dilemmas I run into is this.

1. I can go the web dev route. Make less but also be happier since I like visually appealing things and designing. However, who knows how long before I get my portfolio done with and get good enough at LC to get a job.

2. I can go the data science and data analytics route. And I can probably in a month get a couple machine learning projects done with and my job is close enough that it should be a smooth transition. Numbers stats and math come pretty easy for me. While I like designing I’m pretty bad at it now and I’m just learning css and html while I already know a fair both of Python and have used Jupyter notebook extensively before.

The thing keeping me from option one is the location. I want to switch that up. I’ve done everything in this city and need a change of pace. I don’t think I want to be where I’m at for even a month more. Internal transfer failed when the manager that was pulling me to his team switch companies.

What kind of companies are you trying to work at? Ideally since you don’t have much web dev experience you just do a few tutorials and build a profile (prob one month). If you target smaller companies you probably won’t have as much of an LC barrier.

I’m fine with any company. However the smaller ones seem to treat web devs pretty badly from what I heard. So I’d be going to middle to large size companies.
