I got a verbal offer from Splunk for P3 role in Vancouver around 3 weeks back. I really liked the team and the work, and was in the process of discussing the offer details, and was waiting for the written offer.

After few days, the recruiter came back saying that the team is in a 'holding pattern due to an internal restructuring', and hence, the offer is delayed indefinitely.

Due to uncertainty, I accepted the offer from Microsoft that week and currently background processing is going on.

Last week, the recruiter came back with the update that they can get the offer now if I am still interested. I am still interested but really skeptical about their flaky behavior. Need honest opinions here, is it likely that the team was actually in a restructuring? Or was it just a ruse to keep me as a secondary option while they interviewed other candidates? Should I still consider joining them?

If I decline the accepted offer from Microsoft now would it be a problem if I need to interview/join them in future?

Thanks in advance!

Go with MSFT. Don’t rely on Splunk - very risky, not to mention it’s a sinking ship now

    • Their fundamental isn’t correct. I read online that they missed the cloud business wave

Low stock price is not the only measuring you should be using to decide whether to join or not. Not only we were late to the cloud transition game, there are many issues with products development/roadmap , lack of career progression within, revolving door for executives which impacts the ever-changing strategy

  • Looking at the very slim diff in comp, I would say go with MSFT , it is a bigger brand compared to splunk, work for an yr or 2 then interview somewhere else for sr roles.

The reason I preferred Splunk was that my team at msft isn't a very good one. I can message you the team name in DM

Did you interview with MSFT for a particular team or via the hiring event? Also, have you already decided? I’m based in Vancouver too. DM to connect :)

    Congrats for your offers👏🏻
    How many years of experience?
    If I was making 180 I wouldn’t move for 200/225 though, I would aim for 250+
