Good riddance.

Demanding to know the identities of your paper’s reviewers so that you can inevitably intimidate and retaliate against them for their feedback, as Timnit has done dozens of times on Twitter, is unacceptable. She should be fired, and she gave them an easy out by giving them an ultimatum that she would resign if her demands were not met. Too long has Google put up with SJW trying to force others into believing that any criticism of anything done by a black person ever is racism.

Also, she was not a “top expert”. She was an L6 mid-level employee. She called herself a top expert, and her SJW Twitter mob pushed the term like she was. The media needs to stop hyping her up like she invented Deep Learning or something.

  • You know she is a tech lead for Ethical AI team and yes expert in her field (do research her contribution). She is there on a mission. To avoid the bias. She isn’t there chasing TC. So fighting what she is believed in makes her a hero.
So you want her to suck it up and be a slave?

Ethics in AI is essentially “Critical AI Theory”. It’s a parasite field that keeps finding imaginary structural hierarchy problems in the target field until it destroys it. Of course, the problems are unsolvable, because if you were to suggest that there’s a way to solve them, the whole field of Critical AI Theory would cease to exist.

Nah. Google was more than happy to parade her accomplishments around to lend credibility to their AI ethics program, but drop her without so much as a conversation based on “missing research” and an “approval process she didn’t follow”. How many papers has she published there? She’s not going to forget the process.
The truth is her work probably touched on something that’s didn’t align with company goals. This was retaliation and overt racism, plain as day.

People raising social justice issues solely to further their careers are damaging the cause. Good. bye.

Consider why he, and others like him, are only willing to share these views anonymously while Timnit’s direct peers and community are willing to support her out in the open with their name attached to it.

@BluX32 I’m not claiming everyone who benefits from a racist system is a racist. In fact I’ve explicitly stated I’ve found most white people in tech and in general are to not be racist. Something I can’t say for most brown people I know. That does not negate systemic racism. As for "how has so much diversity been permitted?", because there have been good people that have fought to resist the racists and racism deniers at great personal risk. Don’t pretend to be ignorant to any of this, and don’t raise straw man attacks and attribute ideas to me that I haven’t expressed. There is plenty of room at the table for white people to participate in the betterment of society by addressing the issues of systemic racism. And there many white people who are addressing it, you apparently are not one of them. And I haven’t made any of the claims you accuse me of above. Brush up on your critical reading and thinking skills before you try to engage in debates on this subject. Intelligence and reason aren’t elitist scourges, they are universal forces for progress. Stop rejecting them, for your own good and everyone else’s.

I read the doc from Jeff Dean, my first impression was that she didn't follow the review process or the paper was revealing a problem in Google AI (Hacker news comments) I inclined for the first one

Timnit’s paper pick and choose work to cite. She ignores recent progress in making AI better and more efficient and only focuses on those well known problems of AI. Internally in some threads several Brain researchers have shared with her and email threads multiple works that helped to abate bias the the GPT3 model, which is ignored in her scholastic parrot paper. She continues to also call out “discrimination” whenever it suits her. I have seen people bend over backwards to apologize on email threads.

      > She accomplished a lot by getting fired.

Maybe if she sets herself on fire, she can accomplish even more? Like an AI spring?
