I am a data engineer that works doing a lot of etl, performance tuning, stored procedure dev, general sql data management, and dba work.

In my current role I have been taking on additional work in C#/ asp.net and other more software development type tasks.

The problem I am having is I am now doing the work I was originally hired to do - and I am doing the work of a software developer.

My boss is aware of this, and we have discussed it casually. I am not sure if I should ask an off review raise (the company I work for is very cheap) - or if I should just look for a new role elsewhere?

It is impacting the time I get to spend with my significant other.

Do both. I asked, they said no, and then I left.

Both, don't threaten to leave when you ask for the raise though. They will probably come back with the "lets see how it works out in the next few months and revisit" line.

Why waste time if you already know that they are cheap? Look outside. Tons of opportunities.

During my review a few months ago they said since I was hired shortly before the review period end that I would’ve gotten a raise but didn’t because of timing
