I keep getting citadel ads and it made me wonder why do they advertise for recruiting? I feel like the top candidates already know about citadel and the lower tier average ones like myself probably won’t even get an interview. What’s the benefit of ads? Or is citadel expanding its interview process for people outside target schools?

Spoken like a true Blinder. Of course we of all people would know about all the top companies. However it is not the same for most people outside our bubble here. Many of the smartest kids I knew back in college who couldve easily cleared these interviews given their competitive programming background, were way more into grad school and shit like that than knowing even basic knowledge of which companies pay well
Also, targeting options on ads can help citadel to understand their audience / AB test ads to understand what type of job offers people are more interested in,.. For the sake of gathering hiring data, advertising doesn’t seem too stupid. Especially when you pay your new hires thousands a day.
And citadel could be a pioneer, in a few years every company could be advertising to find talents via traditional ads instead of LinkedIn. Supply and demand will decide I guess
