Micrsoft is trying to make us vendors work to avoid having to pay for our layoffs?

If you work at Microsoft, I have probably cooked food for you. I have been on this campus for nearly two years.

This morning when we arrived, we were told no food production was happening, and that we are shutting down until at least the 25th. We were told to work today and tomorrow to take care of perishable products and deep clean, inventory, etc. We were told to file for unemployment for the time being. I left work much earlier than usual today.

There is some talk of employees being laid off due to closures and inability to telecommute, and that companies are being told they have to pay the employee? I have no confirmation of this part.

But just now, I have been informed that tomorrow we will be informed that MIcrosoft is trying to reel back their offer of closing campus for our safety, and trying to make us work. My buulding has at least 150 people in it every day. One of our managers is of thw opinion we have already been exposed, but no precautions are being taken. They have been very secretive with us, and it is making my coworkers and I deeply uncomfortable

I was told you guys were going to be paid to stay home, so I’ll be pissed if the vendor company lays you off to make extra money.

If msft is paying the vendors and the vendors lay you off, certainly a human interest media story.

What is a vendor? Do you mean a cook at Microsoft also gets Microsoft email? If so just curious what's your tc?

    • I work for a company that is contracted with Microsoft to provide food service on campus. Not all cooks and such do, just managers. Also, my TC as an hourly mid-level manager is roughly $55k
