Currently negotiating a competitive offer from Waymo. Role is super interesting and something that would grow my skills. However am not able to gauge WMU stock offered on joining in comparison to my unvested stock. I do understand it’s a bit of a gamble but hoping I could get some guidance from this community. Can anyone share WMU stock value? Thanks so much!

When I got an offer it felt really sketchy, and the recruiter couldn't stop telling me how all the external public valuation guesses were bogus, they internally have a great calibration of waymos value, but only the CEO is allowed to know it.

Might seem sketch but the reason Waymo offers a total equity value rather than # of shares at a certain price is so they don't have to deal with any renegotiation of equity if people join during a blackout and the share price changes. When your grant gets issued they just take your offer total value and divide by the current share price - which can be different than when you accepted the offer.

They will not actually tell you the current share price (recruiters probably don't even know anyway) nor will they ever tell you the total number of shares. I don't think other startups will either unless you are joining super early.

No matter what the recruiter tells you, the stock is worth $0 until there is a market to sell it, same as every other pre-IPO company.
