Depends on the job. You would have zero issues for jobs in electrical engineering or embedded software.

The category is “computer system analyst”, which is different than SDE. You would have issues with degree relevance here as border guards will be expecting a CS or related degree. Business tech like MIS can also work. This category is NOT programming and if you give the hint your job is mostly programming (ex: SDE role) you will be denied.

To land a job as SDE reliably on TN status you need a Software Engineering or Computer Engineering degree. Any other degree poses a risk of denial at the border for having a non-related engineering degree. Your electrical engineering degree has a significant risk of being viewed as unrelated for an SDE role and thus you may be denied even when applying under engineer category.

That’s simply the harsh truth. There is always a chance you get a lenient border guard who lets you through as technically all you need to qualify as an engineer is any engineering degree, but in practice degree relevance has been harshly enforced for TNs.

No. My degree said electronics and communication engineer: computer science option and I got my TN approved no questions asked. And I also got a green card from my TN.

@Amazon may be you could directly apply for GC from TN because you are born in Canada. For someone like me who did not born in Canada, TN to GC would not be possible. It would be a game changer if whatever you are saying is possible for me as well 😄

No. I have a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications engineering, got a TN 3 times, twice at the consulate, last time inside the US. 0 issues. This was 14 years ago, though.
