Role: Sr Engineer. Yoe 7

Spotify: 230K base + 255K equity / 4 years
Slack: 230K base + 300K equity / 4 years

Which one would you choose? What is your opinion on each of these?

Tradeoffs
Spotify: bigger company and better WLB. Not as challenging technically.
Slack: smaller company backed by Salesforce. Cooler engineering problems. Unlimited PTO

Well Slack lol. At least give some more info on the trade offs. Just by looking at the numbers Slack pays more. What's makes you unable to decide?

I would go by Spotify. For some reason, whenever I see unlimited PTO I run the other way. Also feel like Slack might not have many challenges as a platform it's pretty complete right now. But Spotify is still releasing new things like the "invite others" feature which was in beta for years.

Try considering refreshers from both too. My if you look at next 4 5 years Spotify pay more than Slack even tho first year slack pays more

if ur in for the wlb and culture and fun coworkers then spotify is the right place.

if ur in for the $ potential dont come here bc ppl r leaving like crazy these days bc we pay too little. no bonus, yearly salary increase is minimal (avg is 3.5% this yr πŸ₯œ) getting promotion is very diifficult and sometimes political bc flat org. expect 2.5-3 yr schedule, 2 yr if ur lucky. promotion salary increase only at 18-20% + some stock refresher

money aside everything is perfect here - most ppl i know get by at 30hr/week. swedish summer means nothing happens june-aug. ppl r nice and everyone is passionate about the product. strong ppl-first mindset from top down
