I have a nice full match up to 6 percent so you bet I did despite the opt. It's still free money even with the tax penalty
Why would you ever pull out of a 401k or 403b if you change companies? Max your investment and take full benefit of company match as soon as eligible. When I've changed jobs I simply pool the 401k/403b into my retirement plan managed by my personal broker So I don't have multiple retirement pools to manage. Followed this practice since my first job and have no concerns about retiring early and living comfortably as a result. Save first, spend later.
Post is about visa holders. You can't roll over the 401k if you're moving back into another country and starting a retirement fund there
Ah thanks. Was looking at this as Visa Corp, not "visas". 🤷♂️
Has anyone ever withdrawn 401k money? I'll probably never get green card and was thinking of going to Canada.
As long as there is a company match - do it. Free money
Why not keep it in 401k? Or do a rollover to traditional IRA? (Curious what other people are doing. ^ is my game plan but I haven’t consulted a financial advisor) Edit: keep and invest i.e.
I’ve put money in 401k and regret it. IMHO, if you don’t have gc it’s not worth it.
It is...company match usually beats whatever penalty you may have if forced to take them out
Amazon match is tiny and only vests after 3 years.
