Anyone whose parents got green cards while they were outside US? Which health insurance did they take when moving to US?

Because it is outside of enrollment period, healthcare marketplace is asking when they moved before being able to proceed in the application. They will be arriving next week. Which means I won't be able to apply until after they arrive. So I need to take a temporary health insurance in the meanwhile.

Looking for ideas from anyone who already went through this process.

  • Will your parents need medical attention as soon as they step off the plane?

Not sure why you're stressing as you get a letter (that you can also download off the site) saying they have health insurance that you can use in case they need to see a doctor before the ID card arrives.

In their case, the tax credits cover for most of the premium because of their income requirements. So the application will need to be approved first so that they just collect the balance after tax credits right?

Sorry, maybe these are dumb questions. Currently the application is not letting me go past a screen where I have to enter the "move date in the past 60 days". So couldn't see the remaining process.

    • Sometimes applications get approved automatically, sometimes they ask for more information and you will need to upload docs. Just wait until your parents arrive to do it.
