I have an amazing project and a great manager. But while looking at recent h1b salary database, I got to know i get paid at least 20-30k less as a base compensation when compared to other companies.

This is making me lose interest in my job as I am constantly making ends meet for my expenses.

I am still paying off my student loan debt which makes it even more difficult.

When I was hired, my salary made sense but in the past few months, the work I have been doing is far above my level. I don’t think ill get promoted so soon since it’s not even been a year since I joined this job.

Would it be a good idea to start thinking about moving?

What are my options here?

Some perspective: 20-30k is nothing in the long run.

8% stock market return is pretty optimistic over the long term plus you neglected taxes, but still a good point.

First of all, not everyone invests 100% aggressively into stocks. Second, we are neglecting income taxes and capital gains taxes (both). Third, there is inflation to account for after 10 years. Fourth, even if we drop all of those assumptions, the figure calculated is still incorrect.

  • If you work at SAP you should be looking for a new job regardless of pay

    • Not everyone, just those that have ever dealt with it. SAP loves to give each word a new meaning. What's, say, a router? A transaction? Also, German names in tables and fields.

I agree. I guess I don’t feel the same way because I have a nice team and a great project. I’d have similar feelings if I were in some other team.

Move to Texas if you can. You will be happy with your current salary. Then start looking for a better paying job in 1 or 2 years.

People in Texas complain about the lack of intellectual curiosity. Go to Texas if you plan to mostly stay at work or home. Interacting with others is worse than the bay. Yes COL is low, but know it comes with a price.

Don't even get me started on Austin and how that city is imploding (infrastructure, culture, politics).
