Got offer from a FAANG but worried the impact on WLB with a high schooler
I used to work as a manager in a major FAANG company but got laid off right before the pandemic hit, after multiple interviews finally I got a job for an IC role at a start up in August last year. It has been really heart breaking to lose such a promising job that I used to love, but at the same time, due to pandemic and less demanding job, I could spend quality time with my kids, especially with my high schooler who is Junior this year and is set to leave the nest in 2022.
Now that I have received an offer for the management role at another FAANG, am afraid if I take it then will impact the time and attention I can provide to my high schooler for college admissions and any thing he would need. I do not know how much time I should be devoting on my kid as he doesn't want parents involvement and want to do everything by himself without challenging himself academically. At the same time I don't want to lose such a good opportunity to work on a most cutting edge technology based product which is in stealth mode and want to get back to my career path that I had originally planned before getting laid off. I am confused, shall I stay at current company and be there for my kid whether he needs me or not, or choose the new job that might open new career prospects for me.

Being ambitious by example does more for your kids than helping them fill out FAFSA. Donโt miss the important stuff, but give them something to aspire to and donโt feel guilty about it. Sometimes you have to sacrifice to get what you want in life and this is a great way to demonstrate that.
