How’s the mood at docker these days? Is it a good time to get in? From the outside, it looks like the market for cloud enterprise is being eaten by Kubernetes, in particular Google for public cloud and RedHat with openshift for private cloud. What do you think? What’s the strategy of Docker? Is the equity going to be worth a lot if joining at this stage?
The product is insanely powerful and well respected. Just unsure how you can monetize it now that all the good secrets about it are out.
I really like docker but they really should make a docker, k8s platform. Most k8 clusters run on docker containers but they are not needed for k8 you can use other containers technologies. I would do it for the experience more than the equity because that might not be worth much but the experience and what you learn would be.
I don’t understand how they can realistically expect to make much money from the product.
Same. It's like tensorflow. Super cool and powerful but I'll wait for some other group of geniuses to top it for the public before I pay for it.
The product is unlike most open source products in that the documentation is too good and just works. 😂 Hence no money on support fees.
👋this year we make or break it. Sales numbers look good atm but we're not in the clear yet. We historically were highly mismanaged as many OSS companies are but the new guard has put us on a path to success
A year later and docker is circling the drain. Lol.
Dodge the bullet, pretty much 95% of the eng. org left.

Sorry not to answer your question - just find it is a rather curious situation. They have a great product, which everybody uses and depends upon. But all their efforts to monetize it - create additional services on top - IMO is not what people what, and IMO actually makes the product worse. But then again - they need to make money, in order to continue to make great free product...
That’s the curse of (some) open source companies...
