Total compensation after moving to Cisco from AppDynamics

Apr 14, 2017 9 Comments

As the date for onboarding of AppDynamics employees over to Cisco nears, newer revelations keep popping up.
Recently I overheard during lunch someone saying that in the new offer letter, the current base pay of AppDynamics employee would be turned to the "total" compensation at Cisco which includes a cut in base pay and adding the remainder as bonus, thus keeping the total compensation equal to the base pay.

Is this just a rumour or is it true? There were some people who's managers had talked with them about this in the last few days.

Would request them to chip in if they like to help :)

  • That's bullshit. Cisco doesn't pay much. Is there anyone from Meraki/jasper knowing anything related to this?

I don't think it's true, and it doesn't make sense. I've heard some acquired teams are paid really well. If you can access Cisco lounge you will see what I meant

    • Sure it doesn't make sense. But what if they pay well only to the "important" people they don't want to lose and cut for the rest ? Because, as far as I know, nobody's salaries are kept out anywhere in the open so it'll all be a secret anyway

This depends on company / local culture. I know a few places in Cisco that openly discuss pay. As a manager that can be weird but I've never had a "bad conversation" because of it. Then again I work hard to make sure people are paid fairly and any difference can be obviously justified.

Came to Cisco through acquisition. For us this was not the case. Depends on how well your managers get people leveled of course but in not aware of anyone taking a cut to base pay from our organization (250+ people). The biggest change was in insurance. Previous company covered spouse (working or not) at nominal cost, Cisco will cover non-working spouse at nominal cost but working spouse is a 400/biweekly charge. For me it meant to keep the same insurance coverage I had now meant I was paying significantly more (800/month more) and to that Cisco not paying internet for home offices and a couple other things and I was looking at around 1200/mo in new costs. Luckily wife has good coverage through her work (but the double insurance had been nice) so dropped her from my plan. In total, my annual went up due to bonus with base staying the same.

  • Do not have any knowledge to this specific case but it is very common during and acquisition to adjust salaries to the company rate. This can however take 1 or 2 years so hopefully you will have plenty of notice.
