Posting for a friend who does not have access to Blind:

I am an indian national and I have two offers one for USA (on F-1 visa here have to go for H1B next year) and another for Spain as a Senior Software Engineer and Senior Backend Engineer respectively. Following are pros and cons.
Company in USA
PROs:
1. In the USA, better job market
2. I get to establish the technical processes
3. More pay (still taking a cut from my last position) relative to Spain
4. Already familiar with work and language
CONs:
1. The only technical person on the team.
2. Larger work load, less work life balance
3. Visa uncertainty (F-1 & trying for H1B, don't know even if it's worth it)

Company in Spain
PROs:
1. Established technical process.
2. Better startup finance.
3. Global experience
4. Better work-life balance
CONs:
1. New work culture.
2. Less pay compared to US (higher taxes)
3. Economy and Job Market is not as great as US

My eventual goal is to move to Canada/USA and establish a base and stay close to mature US market. However, in near future that seems uncertain with H1B being lottery system and long wait for green card (45 years average). Would love your opinions. Thank you.

If your friend isn’t born in India he/she can get a green card within a year of applying. If he gets into a major company and doesn’t get H1 picked he can move to Canada and come back.
USA all the way-Spain really sucks for tech jobs.

      OP
He's already in USA in f1 visa OPT. Got let go during covid, interviewed with a lot of companies including fb, google and amazon and could not get in. His unemployment period is ending by end of this month and even if he gets an offer he will have only 1 year left on opt and need h1b after that which is a lottery. Hence the dilemma

If you're culturally hispanic, you'll love living in Spain. People there enjoy life and do not place work at the center of their existence. If you're not culturally hispanic or even westerner, I'd suggest you go to US.
If you're from India, go to the US only to get the work experience, but you'll have to come up with a plan B. As an Indian national, you will not get a green card (through work sponsorship) in this lifetime.
