Just wanted to know joining the space industry as a permanent resident (green card holder) for 2 years in the US. A little info: From central Asia, graduated from Harvard (BSc, MSCSE). Overall, over 3 years of work experience in initially Amazon, then Google as SWE. I am kinda super crazy and sick about the space industry and would like to contribute to the evolution of the space industry and have at least little impact. Is it possible to join those companies as GC holder, at least as a contractor? Do not care about TC as long as they pay enough for me and my family to survive. As a perm resident, is it possible to make a career? Is it easy to get clearance as a perm resident? Where do you look for opportunities? If you apply on LinkedIn, Indeed, and similar platforms, you will never get a response back. Note: I read a lot online, it's a full mix of contradicting answers and information. It's hard to find someone who has been through this online and ask them questions. Because Blind's verified employees' community, I just gave it a shot. Thanks. #tech #spacex #space-industry#greencard TC: 270 YOE: >3
Topic has been beaten to death but you’re honestly not missing out on much. What you do day-to-day is lamer than in tech and no it’s not only at defense. Heard SpaceX likes to hire ex-tech from Google and such for software. A lot of technical software jobs doing the “cool” stuff at least at Boeing like to hire other engineering majors relevant to the job but that could be bc they’re non-competitive for tech employees. Software is second-hand to other positions in aerospace and isn’t considered top-dog like you’ll find at tech companies You being a green card holder might affect the jobs you could get but don’t know logistics of that. As far as where to look, just go on their sites I’ve interviewed with every big aerospace company.
Majority of the programs require citizenship..check first..
Yea thats very true. Just looking to see if its possible with permanant residency.
It is possible. You just can’t go to defense.
You should check out Uber Elevate. It’s not space per se but there’s a lot of crossover work with NASA bc the work heavily involves next generation air traffic control technology. & yes we are hiring.

Unfortunately UAM not coming soon
You are already at Amazon. Why not Project Kuiper ?
Clearance is citizens only, also a lot of space programs are ITAR restricted which makes the position citizen only as well. Best of luck finding a job in the field you want to work in.
Pm me
Omg who are you people spreading BS? were you all banned from google? A US person includes the GC holder so please if you don’t know - just stay quiet
Yes 100%
I also don’t think you need a clearance for most positions at NASA but can’t confirm that
FYI I’ve heard NASA is a standard, slow moving, government job - so take that as you will. Almost certainly won’t be moving fast working on groundbreaking projects
