TC for a PhD with 2+ YOE in pharma Bay Area

I’m currently at AbbVie Chicago with TC 130k. Planning to move to Bay Area in to a pharma company. What should be a good TC to expect in companies like Genentech, gilead etc.

  • LinkedIn/Glassdoor data is a bit underestimated right now. There was a raise in overall Scientist family last year at my company. I am new PhD, Scientist, R&D, TC 183 K, YOE <1. There is additional total 60K post-tax rental allocation over 2 years (if that makes it little easier to settle in bay area). Hope this info gives you some insight.

    If open to Southern California - check out Ionis pharmaceuticals. Their Asst Director level has a range of 135-155 base salary. Asst Dir is Principal Scientist level

      Surface chemistry PhD goes well in genomics industry for sensor development ; the likes of Illumina (lots of intel folks there who worked jn fab - I also was at intel fab), element biosciences, 10x genomics (Bay Area), inscripta, singular genomics

  • Check out salaries on Glassdoor. TC might be slightly higher, but the COL is also high in the Bay Area.
