Both ML team, very similar offer with avg TC at ~450k

Uber:
Pros:
- front loading make first two year quite high at 500k. Could get more upside in the long run?
- lots of upside post pandemic? Uber eats and groceries look great
Cons:
- avg TC a bit lower, not sure what refresh target is for 5a
- team is a bit bigger, not sure if that affects growth opportunities

Pinterest
Pros:
- strong ML team
- higher refresher
- some upside since the stock price is low at the moment
- better wlb?
- smaller team, may have more growth opportunities
Cons:
- company is doing well but not sure if it has as much upside as Uber which seems more essential to people's life.

I'm slightly inclined to join Pinterest. What else should I consider? How would you make the decision?

Yoe:5
Tc: 350k

Uber 5A is equivalent to a L4/5 when comparing with other companies. 5B is a true L5. Pinterest L5 is accurate and is a true L5. Iโ€™d choose based off of scope of work and potential for career growth if TC is about the same.

Avoid Uber. It turned into a taxi company under Dara. Tech leadership is non existent, all decisions are made by bankers.

Uber sold the Jump business to Lime in May 2020.

Yes, letting go half thousands people and keeping a small team for integration is equally the same as Uber still running Jump. Now I understand why you said Uber was going to launch Self-Driving trucks while itโ€™s just to dispatch Auroraโ€™s lol

Btw, Pinterest owns Amazon and Target too, because we have several teams doing integration

Yes Maps is still there, but did you know it started as the org to build the whole mapping service, before DK let go 3 thousands people?

Then, Money, Elevates, Works and lists go on

I understand Uber is your proudness moment. I only wanted to tell you - it was much better and innovating

The way Iโ€™ve thought about this in the past is how much of a difference in total comp would change my mind if I joined the company whose mission/ people I didnโ€™t align as well with

Thanks. I think people-wise, both team feels great. Mission-wise, Uber might feel a bit more interesting, but I don't think the difference is so big to be factored in.

Another thing you could consider is to ask the recruiter if you could spend more time with the manager or a teammate before making a decision. Iโ€™ve often found those types of conversations to be more light hearted and authentic
