Where do you invest your cash?

Dec 29, 2016 18 Comments

I use E*TRADE / fidelity for 401K and company RSUs. I've over 40K in cash that I want to invest somewhere. Someone recommended using Vanguard. Any advice will be appreciated.

There is technically an index going public soon (lookup Iconomi) but I'm not sure how much I trust them. Winklevoss ETF will only be for Bitcoin not other cryptos. I would have a portfolio of 50% Bitcoin, 30% Ethereum, 15% Monero, and 5% REP. Don't look at the daily/weekly/monthly swings, the volatility will make you pull your hair out. Just put it in cold storage and come back and reassess in 2-3 years.

There are 2 sides to that coin, read Total Money Makeover, different perspective on debt, financial analysts don't all agree but have good reasons for their plans

  • It depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you are saving short-term for a house, then a high yield savings account or CD mixed with an index ETF like VOO is a good choice. 50/50 is my preferred mix, but depends on your appetite for risk. If you are saving long-term and have your 401k/Roth already maxed then go heavy or 100% on the ETF.
