Anyone remember when McDonald's bought Dynamic Yield for $300M in 2019? That smelled like a snake oil sale. Like McD had no idea what they were buying. I'm quite sure they could've built their own for less than 1/20th the price. I'm shocked I never heard criticism of this buy. Anyone think this was a good / bad decision? Any insider info on how they did their due diligence? #acquisitions #finance #tech #datascience #data
300m is nothing to McDonald's
This is exactly what I suspect: DY found someone w/ deep enough pockets that 300M is banana-money. I want to find another -sucker- company like this.
What does dynamic yield do? Some machine learning shit?
Yes, specifically, recommendation engines, if I'm understanding correctly.
Never makes sense for a business to try to learn a new business. Mcd would want to stick to their primary competency, real estate.
Lol sure. But hire literally 1 small team of 5 and you'd be done in a year, maybe 2. Or buy any number of companies that can do this for way less than 300M
Tell me you don't understand how tech works without telling me lol
Who cares
Anyone who wants to make 300M with minimal work. Anyone who's in a position to make an acquisition and doesn't want to be embarrassed.
