Haven’t seen a lot of chatter on Google relocation paycut lately. Are Googlers happy with it?

I think almost everyone already expects this. People have been paid based on their office location anyway.

Yea I dont know why anyone was surprised they kept the same model of paying people differently depending based on the COL of where they work.

The paycut isn't a real cut it's an adjustment. Making $600K in the bay area is equivalent to making $180K in the midwest.

A lot of people think just because they're making $700K TC in SF or Seattle, that they have the same lifestyle as someone making $700K elsewhere.

I got an Amazon Air offer for $350K in Seattle, and when I ran the numbers, it was like making $160K base in Raleigh. I turned it down. The benefit of accepting that offer would be stock appreciation.

  • Relocation pay cut was always there. You move from Austin to SF, you get pay raise. Same deal. Nothing new about this.
