Got an offer from google, amazon pulled out a massive dive and save (paying out my Google sales bonus to cover it 100% by an increase in base) including a possible change in role within 6 months.

Concerns:
1. I have signed the Google offer - there is no legal imact but will this have lasting impact on future ops at google?

2. Anybody have experience with a newly created role at AWS? Does it stick? Have heard stories where the role has been killed shortly after its creation.

AWS L6 (outside of US)
Current TC: 248K
Dive and save TC: 317K

GCP (chronicle) L5 (outside of US)
TC: 312K

It's never a good thing to accept a counter offer within the company, that too in Amazon. Are you new to Amazon?

I disagree with the general advice that taking the retention offer is always bad. I’ve gotten external offers and taken the match from my current company twice in 6 years. It is the easiest way to get a substantial raise if you are a high performer.

I would be wary of the new role promise though. In my experience, even if that is a well intentioned/good faith promise, it can still fall apart due to other moving parts between now and then.

Level and TC? Too hard to give abstract advice. Taking a dive and save can make sense sometimes, but things like "possible change in role in 6 months" make me skeptical. If you want to get a D&S as a tactical move to max out band comp after a promo, it's a great tool. But outside of those sort of scenarios, or cases where you really love your current team and role and the outside offer is much less exciting, it probably doesn't make sense.
