Speaking of DoorDash, what’s up with tips AHEAD of service?

Leaving pros and cons of the tipping culture aside, tips are supposed to be a reward for good customer service.

DoorDash forcing me to tip AHEAD of time and not giving me options to do it after is so annoying.

Sometimes the driver is lightning fast, friendly or thoughtful (not ringing bells to avoid disturbing) etc. I’d love to tip more to them.

Sometimes it takes over an hour for them to complete the order, they deliver 2 orders before yours or once the driver tried scolding me for not tipping enough. I’d tip less of course.

Can you guys change that?

You can't leave aside the tipping culture. You, personally, may believe that tips are a reward for good service. That's what they are taught to be in order to justify them. What they actually are is a way to avoid paying fair wages and obscure pricing. The customer, in a tipping culture is left with the choice of being involved in the underpayment of the employee, or to divorce tipping for quality of service. This is why many are OK with tipping first: they have chosen the second option here.

I think you confuse tips with fees/taxes.
Don’t attempt to redefine what tips mean.

The first choice is swapping tips for fees.

If you don't acknowledge that other people have a different understanding than you of what tips are for, you will not understand how those people tip. Since you opened this poll, I guess you are at least a bit interested in understanding.

Words and customs don't have objective definitions. For you, tips are rewards for good service. There are contexts where that definition works. For other people, tips are a necessary part of a person's income.

Yeah and there is NO option to edit tip afterwards like wth. And recently learned that drivers picking up orders with higher tips so the higher you tip higher chances of your order being picked up quickly. Such a stupid system.

It’s not higher tips. The drivers won’t know ahead. But they can see total of the order

DoorDash doesn’t care about you. They just want the dashers to accept the order.
