So angry right now. Hiring manager personally called with a 100k offer after recruiter was told 150k base repeatedly. Rather than immediately reject out of anger said I'd review and talk Monday. I don't think this even warrants a counter discussion as I feel all this time interviewing was a mutual waste. I will cooloff and politely decline Monday but curious who else has rejected offers before and manner they did so. Furious because I already made a lot of sacrifices with friends, family and personal situation expecting this offer to justify moving to a boring state for the next few years of my life.
saying a number before a written offer is a major mistake in your negotiation strat. You lost this one.
Yeah they have 125 in mind they just need you to accept it by lowballing and making you think the negotiation is a win
Or, you could counter with $150k. The worst they can say is no & you’re already ready to turn them down.
Applied and asked "whats the range" and told 140-160. Agreed upon 150 as base and met with 8 people over 2 days. Hiring manager is trying to sell me on low cost of living, taxes etc. If downleveled that wasn't told yet. Awaiting the formal written offer to see if thats case. If thats the case then understandable, but sounds like major disconnect for now between recruiter and HM
Counter offer at $170
Don't settle for less than 140k and that too if you like the company and it's position
Ask for 200k. Looks like +/- 50k is ok in that company.
Haha
So be an adult and negotiate. Share your market research and say you are expecting 150 to 160 (or whatever it is). Its not uncommon to go up 100% from the initial offer. No reason to be mad. You wouldn't want to work for a company who is needlessly throwing away money would you?
If they came back with a $150k offer now would you take it? If yes, try negotiate if it doesn’t work politely call it a day. If no and you never want to work with these people walk away maybe string them along a bit if it makes you feel better. Two weeks to think, then start negotiating. A week into your next gig reach out saying you might see an update on LinkedIn, But you just want to try this for six months and you really like their mission.
What?
It’s all made sense in his mind..
So u told recruiter 150k repeatedly. And that obligates the hiring manager to offer exactly what u want, how?
If the recruiter was given a minimum and they went ahead with the interview, it would seem appropriate for the offer to be very near that number. Why would they even go through with the interview if they can’t make an equitable offer?
Because they think op will fold
