Is your toddler back at daycare?

Aug 30, 2020 14 Comments

For parents who have little ones, is your child back at daycare? What's your rationale for sending the child back or staying home?

Just curious because it's such a hard decision with evidence that sometimes contradict. The risk assessment at times feels like drawing a line in the sand and convince ourselves that what we do is for the best. There's no one perfect decision because it's either putting kids /family health at risk, or putting our jobs at risk. 🙄

No judgement for either decision.

  • My spouse and I are working, no help from outside. Staying mentally healthy is more important than super tiny probably of having complications from covid. So our little one is in day care

    • I need to improve my reading comprehension? The source I provided answered your question. You clearly didn’t open it.

      > The likelihood of a patient developing persistent symptoms is hard to pin down because different studies track different outcomes and follow survivors for different lengths of time. One group in Italy found that 87% of a patient cohort hospitalized for acute COVID-19 was still struggling 2 months later. Data from the COVID Symptom Study, which uses an app into which millions of people in the United States, United Kingdom, and Sweden have tapped their symptoms, suggest 10% to 15% of people—including some “mild” cases—don’t quickly recover. But with the crisis just months old, no one knows how far into the future symptoms will endure, and whether COVID-19 will prompt the onset of chronic diseases.

Links to studies and data in the article.

Evidence is “growing” as “more” total studies are completed and “more” showcase a non-insignificant risk.

The politicization of this virus is something I will never understand. We can’t band together as a species against this thing. We are so fcked.

We are all gonna get it some day, even with a vaccine; just like we all eventually get Flu at some point in our lives. Anyone whose system is going to have problems, is going to have them eventually. There is no point in 'banding together' here. We arent fighting aliens here. It is a frikkin cold virus which is not gonna stop no matter what we do. I dont care about things I cant control. No point in being fearful, its not gonna help.

  • Our little one who is 14 months has been going to day care for 2 months now! My kid’s day care has strict policies too and we are happy sending him! Otherwise we would’ve had more side effects than Covid..lol

Do they wear masks at daycare? I sent mine back briefly for a mental break, but the first day I saw a picture of one elder girl feeding my daughter by hand. 😑 So much for social distance and no touching mouth...

    • Yes, it’s a very small home based day care with only 4 kids and 1 care taker who wear mask all the time!

  • Mine is. They get their temperature checked and have very strict procedures when dropping/picking them up. Has been at daycare for 3 months now.
