I am currently on F1-OPT (expiration date 30th Sept 2020). About to send my application to USCIS for the F1-OPT extension. Skeptical that the USCIS processing might take longer. So, my question is:- can people in my situation get a cap-gap period to avoid any un-employed days between the expiration date of the current EAD and the new EAD card starting date?. If so, then what is the process for this cap-gap?

Sad news is USCIS is not doing so well financially so they may shutdown or at least run on reduced capacity soon.
They’re already scheduled to furlough 70% of staff by early August.
