Thoughts on true leaders in the AI and ML space? Curious what other people in tech think and if it's different than what media says.

There's a running joke that Watson was designed only to play jeopardy and now is simply marketed to sell large contracts but doesn't add any value.

The jokes increased when MD Andersen cancelled their contract prematurely.

    • Actually what's up with Watson? Lots of great (and expensive) ads/PR not much to show for it.

http://dawn.cs.stanford.edu/benchmark/ See Benchmark : google rules the ML software infrastructure in terms of actual machine learning libraries (Tensorflow and Kubernetes for scaling) and hardware (TPU). Amazon wins user familiarity so most submissions were done through AWS cloud infrastructure. Facebook research in ML software is also strong. You can credit Facebook for the top PyTorch submissions since Facebook is a heavy contributor to PyTorch. Also Yann Lecun, one of The Godfather’s of Deep Learning works at Facebook.
Micro$oft Azure AI sucks. None of their three open source ML libraries (LightGBM, CNTK, DMTK) made it to the list and nobody used Azure for any of the submissions. From my personal experience using Azure, their sales rep and technical support both could’t answer basic questions about their machine learning products. They just tell you to RTFM.
