How much influence do you (the recruiter) have on the initial number, and do you have the ability to make discretionary adjustments when negotiating?

What can candidates do to make it easier for you, as a recruiter talking with comp approvers, to advocate for an increase during negotiation?

Thanks for the response! Makes sense. Any advice regarding the second question?

If you have competing offers with a FAANG company, just say it. It will help.

If you are comfortable disclosing the bonus amount/rsu value/whatever it is, I would suggest doing so. Have concrete data points will help me expedite the process.

I’m glad! They seem to be helping. The best way to get a higher number is to have another offer or to be in a current role with an existing bonus or equity you’re walking away from. Mention that you’re really excited and grateful for the offer, but given the considerable guaranteed cash you’ll be walking away from, you’d like to explore the opportunity of a sign on bonus of 20K, 30K whatever makes sense for your level.

Do interviewers know what level the candidate is interviewing for? Also during the debrief, do all the interviewers have visibility on what level was finally decided for the candidate? Or is the leveling confined to the HM, recruiter and the director?

Thank you for answering these questions! I was told that for a role in Europe the offer salary is set by cost of labor per level and not negotiable. Is that just for certain countries and does this apply to stocks as well in the TC?
