  • I don't think that avg is the right way to measure this.

Havent been to both, but from what I've heard - once you meet the bar - the process in fb is much smoother.

You dont to initiate it, no need to put together a packet or to over optimize your work for a packet, it's always driven by your manager (beyond l5 as well) - it is never debated by people who don't know anything about you without anyone representing you.

At FB, your manager still needs to present your case for promo and can get denied btw

    • Of course - i was there and did that. It is a very important part of creating fairness and avoiding baseless promotion by some managers.

The point is that the facts if what you did are presented by someone that actually know instead of having you summarize them with good references and than have a group of people that know nothing about you read between the lines of the packet.

That exercise doesn't take place in fb - instead your case is assessed based in the merit of the manager's case and they have the opportunity to respond and improve the packet. You dont l really get that option in the external committee path

  • Seems you have recently joined Facebook and you think you made a mistake by not joining Google :P. It's okay, you can leave FB anytime you get a feeling that your career is slowing down.
