Should I take a contract role at Facebook?

Jul 7, 2021 8 Comments

I am considering a 6-12 month contract role in FB but I was really looking for full time roles because . . . benefits.

Should I just take it ($70/hr) anyway if Facebook is a fan of converting contractors?

I wouldn’t bank on getting converted. Most people never get converted. That being said, there is a chance, and if not, you may get enough experience working with tech companies to land a full time job elsewhere.

Just try to not get stuck in the contractor cycle. A lot of contractors I know end up bouncing from one contracting gig to the next.

The downside of contracting is that they usually have no benefits and usually have a definite end date, which leads to future job insecurity. I would take the experience and try to get out as soon as an opportunity presents itself.

  • it’s worth it if you’re doing it for the learning experience without expectations of conversion. Conversion is a possibility but it’s more likely than not in most cases. if you’re young with a lot of risk tolerance go for it
