Why do people on LinkedIn care so much about Airbnb layoffs?

I saw so many posts about Airbnb (of the I'm so sad but I'm glad to still have a job, please reach out if I can help in any way kind ๐Ÿ™„) while there have been hundreds of other companies with layoffs

Show offs, people will do anything to get likes on their posts

  • I don't like that either. Some people are just faking the sympathy to get likes. If someone reaches out, I doubt they will even help.

Wait, you expected this person in your network to do the work for you? You should have found the roles you were interested in, see if that person is connected to people at that (/those) company(/ies), and then approached. How is this hard to understand?

Yeah man I have literally thousands in my LinkedIn network. I canโ€™t stand it when someone simply sends me a resume and expects a recruiting email to magically appear in the next few days. Give me a goddamn job posting.

Also airbnb guys are the least to need help as they LC hard and have a fat severance package. How about helping other folks who have been laid off? Fuck these scumbags trying to prop themselves up on linkedin

Its quite shallow. Can see right through all those posts from โ€œsafeโ€ employees. If theyโ€™re not offering direct and active help, even if itโ€™s as small as offering to read over and edit a personโ€™s resume or cover letter, or anything specific really, then all of it is just for show. Which definitely seems to be the case on LinkedIn. Think it could also be a form of boosting their brands and egos subconsciously, e.g theyโ€™re making it known to everybody else that they still have jobs.

One possibility is that AirBnB was doing well so the layoffs were unexpected. Compare this to uber which already had layoffs and lyft which was never very stable from a business perspective.

The $2B borrowed was a signal that we werenโ€™t going to have layoffs (for me at least). The layoffs came as a surprise and for me ruined the single opportunity Iโ€™ve had in my entire career to gain a decent amount of stock anywhere. It really sucks.
