With remote jobs on the rise, a lot of people are traveling around without an established place. Nomads, what do you love and hate about it?

Being a new grad and going straight into wfh has limited how much I can learn, but living in one of the best towns in the world makes it worth it

Loved everything. Disliked availability of internet access in rural areas. Used a 4g hotspot but it’s not quite enough

What I like: If it wasn’t for Covid and remote work/interviewing, I wouldn’t be working for a FAANG right now. What I hate: The uncertainty of where we’re living next now that I have work commitments and where we’ll move is up in the air due to uncertain RTO plans. Been bouncing from AirBNB to AirBNB, which is stressful and expensive.

How long do you usually stay in one location, and how do you manage your taxes per state?

Currently, one to four months. Domiciled and resident of a no-tax state and spend most time here now, then carefully pay attention to each state’s tax laws (not looking forward to calculating planning trips to CA for non-resident forms — but with digital records, this will be a lot easier). Since I have no idea what’s going to happen or where we will end up, I foresee paying some penalties this year and am just factoring it into CoDB.
