I work for Perspecta. (there apparently aren’t enough employees on this app to have their own page yet). I applied to a job opening with the same company, and it was offered to me, and I accepted. All verbally of course, because I wanted to have my manager’s blessing before moving forward.
I told my manager today, and he/she was surprised, and said he/she doesn’t think I can do that, and implied he/she was going to try and stop it.
Can he/she do that? I can’t find any paperwork I have signed saying I can’t.
It’s also worth mentioning that for some reason I can’t call HR, it is email only (?)

Your new manager should not be having you do all the tough conversations, but that is often pretty common. Your manager probably freaked out because s/he depends on you and you leaving will put big hole in team. The best way to handle is to have conversation about what you can do to make your move have as little impact as possible. Sometimes that means giving 4 weeks in current role, or being available to help person doing your job, etc.
Someone needs to remind your current manager that losing you internally is better than you leaving the company entirely, as well as it is a compliment to their leadership that they hired you and got you to the point you are at now. Good luck!
